Case Study

Account Based Ticketing Fares Policy and Business Rules Review.

The Project

The Client

Translink is the public transport operator in Northern Ireland. It is a public corporation that provides a comprehensive network of bus and rail services throughout the region and on cross-border routes into the republic of Ireland.

Project Description

Innovatious was commissioned by Translink (Northern Ireland) to conduct a comprehensive review of their proposed business rules for their new Account Based Ticketing (ABT) system. This review aimed to identify any potential negative impacts on revenue protection and the customer experience before the system’s implementation.

We meticulously reviewed Translink’s ABT tap processing business rules, analysing how existing closed-loop fare policies were translated into the new ABT logic. Our analysis uncovered some potential gaps and inconsistencies for discussion with Translink, highlighting scenarios that could lead to fare evasion or customer confusion.

Based on our extensive knowledge of best practices from around the world, we provided a detailed report with recommendations for alternative business rules. These recommendations aimed to achieve Translink’s objectives while mitigating potential risks, ensuring a smooth transition to the new ABT system and a positive experience for passengers.
