Case Study

cEMV Enhancement Study.

The Project

The Client

A regional transport body in the North of England.

Project Description

Innovatious assessed a Regional Mayoral Combined Authority transport area’s current ticketing solution and planned enhancements, with a focus on enabling seamless travel using open-loop cEMV PAYG (contactless) payment cards.

This involved developing a proposed technical architecture, encompassing existing, new and enhanced system components, to enable contactless acceptance.  Recognising the operational impact of this transition, we detailed the necessary adjustments, including new business processes, certifications, and regulatory compliance requirements. Furthermore, our analysis explored the various technical options available for implementing contactless acceptance, considering national initiatives underway at the time. This included a thorough options appraisal, complete with potential costings and phased implementation plans, providing a clear roadmap of key considerations and decisions to inform their long-term ticketing strategy.
